A Cognitive Approach to Autism
Presenter: Robert J. Bernstein
Community Room, 3rd floor
A talk by Rob Bernstein, author of “Uniquely Normal: Tapping the Reservoir of Normalcy to Treat Autism”.
Bernstein uses a cognitive approach to help children on the autism spectrum by teaching underlying concepts that are necessary for language. Bernstein’s method mirrors the neurotypical world in which meaningful situations elicit language from the child. The child’s speech helps to organize thoughts and to emotionally regulate and address his/her behavior issues.
