See and explore the history of our town
An all-new exhibit for 2025, featuring fascinating old photos and memorabilia showcasing the history of Mahopac and Lake Mahopac, from its iconic hotels to the unique life of Mahopac Falls and the surrounding town. The collection is presented by the Putnam Historian’s Office and Carmel Historical Society with pieces curated from the estate of Gregory Amato, a beloved, former resident, Carmel Police Department Chief, and volunteer in the 4-H, Red Cross, and Carmel Historical Society.

Join us for a presentation by Brian Vangor, a dedicated member of the Town of Carmel Historical Society and the Putnam County Historian’s Office, for an exclusive look at the remarkable Mahopac history collection left by the late Gregory J. Amato—a beloved figure in our community. In this special presentation, we’ll uncover the fascinating history of Lake Mahopac, from its iconic hotels to the unique life of Mahopac Falls and the surrounding town. Through the thoughtfully curated collection, we’ll explore the memories and images that Greg collected, preserving the legacy of the community he loved.
