Friends of MPL

THE BULLETIN BOARD
The Friends of Mahopac Public Library will be meeting on Tuesday, June 30th at 5:15 pm in the Local History Room on the third floor of the Mahopac Public Library. We'll be discussing plans for the used book sale to be held on October 4th. Please make every effort to attend this meeting since we'll need help to make this sale a success. During the sale we would like to set up a tent in the parking lot next to the street. If anyone has a tent that the Friends could borrow for the day, please e-mail us at friends@mahopaclibrary.org.

Q: What have the Friends done for the library?
A: Through the proceeds of the Book Barn, membership dues, and fund-raising activities, the Friends this past year have contributed more than $16,000.00 for library programs and services. We have been able to sponsor a series of multi-cultural programs including Latin dancing, Brazilian music, and Japanese calligraphy. We have also funded the acquisition of pod-casting software, sound equipment for the Teen Players, Discovery Kits for the Children’s Room, and the new canopy at the front of the library. Additionally, we have been able to assist the library to purchase books, DVDs, audio books, and CDs. These all enhance the Library’s service to the community.
The Friends manage the Book Barn which offers gently used books and videos at very reasonable prices. The Book Barn is located in the library basement and may be accessed either by elevator or by stairs. Donations of used books and videos may be left in the Book Barn bin currently located to the right of the main entrance of the library, beyond the exterior book return drop. The Book Barn is open Tuesdays from 1:00- 8:00 pm, Thursdays from 2:00 – 7:00 pm, the third Saturday of the month from 1:00 – 4:00 pm, and the 2nd Sunday of each month from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.
A selection of books and videos from the Book Barn is available for sale in the lobby during Library hours.

Q: What is the latest project?
A: The Friends have been coordinating a monthly, theme-based gift book sale which features a special selection of affordable items in excellent condition. The gift book table is located on the first floor of the library in front of the windows facing Lake Mahopac.
Look for new themes each month – in April the Friends are featuring gardening and cook books, in May they highlighted great gifts for mothers, and, beginning in June book table featured light beach reading! There is always a wonderful selection of children’s books including items that you might find on student’s summer reading lists.
Special thanks to members of the Friends group for developing the Gift Book Table project including JoAnn Bronschidle, Anne Gagliardi, Susan Good, and Debbie Shields.
